In 2009, the Young Leaders Conference, sponsored by the Swiss National Bank and Swiss International Air Lines, was held for the first time in Gerzensee. The class of 2019 will also be hosted at the beautiful Hotel Schloss Gerzensee.

The class of 2009 included The Honorable Bill Huizenga, U.S. representative for Michigan’s 2nd District; The Honorable Hector Balderas, attorney general of New Mexico; Ambassador Rita Adam, Swiss Ambassador to Italy, San Marino, and Malta; The Honorable Kevin L. Boyce, Franklin County Commissioner and former State Treasurer of Ohio; Nicholas Johnston, editor of Axios, a news and information website founded in 2016 by former Politico staffers; Michelle Gonzalez, head of Google’s Area 120; Dr. Daniel Möckli, advisor on security and peace policy at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Reto Savoia, CEO of Deloitte Switzerland and a member of the Executive of Deloitte North and South Europe; and Alain Zucker, managing editor at NZZ am Sonntag, the Sunday edition of Switzerland’s leading German-language daily.

The class of 2009 also included Rebecca Guntern Flückiger, head of Cluster Europe for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals; Dr. Robert Bichsel, head of banking system at the Swiss National Bank; Michael Syz, executive vice president for Pictet & Cie; Amanda Engstrom Eversole, COO at the American Petroleum Institute; Dr. Anthony Mazzarelli, co-president and CEO of Cooper University Health Care; Professor Andreas Bohrer, group general counsel and company secretary at Lonza; Christoph Casparis, vice president for ground operations at SWISS International Air Lines; Catherine Burger, head of Swiss Re Advisory; John Berlau, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute; Gene Healy, vice president at the Cato Institute; and Aaron Bouska, vice president for government and community relations at the New York Botanical Garden.
