AMBASSADOR FAITH WHITTLESEY LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Faith Whittlesey Leadership Award is presented in recognition of the efforts of an individual, or individuals, who promote and strengthen the ties between Switzerland and the United States. The Inaugural award was presented in 2023 to Diana Davis Spencer and Abby Moffat for their tireless efforts promoting the shared values and interests of the two countries. In the presentation, ASF chair Robert J. Giuffra, Jr. noted the close friendship between Ambassador Faith Whittlesey and Ambassador Shelby Cullom Davis, the longest serving U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Mrs. Spencer’s father and Ms. Moffat’s grandfather. Both Ambassador Whittlesey and Ambassador Davis chaired the American Swiss Foundation.

STRATTON PRIZE

The Stratton Prize was founded by Dr. Freddy Homburger, who served as Honorary Consul for Switzerland in Boston for two decades from 1966-1986, to honor significant career achievement in the intercultural landscape between Switzerland and America. The Prize was fist awarded to Julius Adams Stratton, former President of MIT and later Chair of the Ford Foundation in 1966. The Stratton Laureate Prize has been awarded to a distinguished list of Swiss or Americans across a wide range of disciplines in the fields of diplomacy, business, science and medicine, the visual arts, music, academics, and more. From 1966 until 2023, the Friends of Switzerland, Inc. (FOSI) was the custodian of the Stratton Prize. In 2024, FOSI merged with the American Swiss Foundation (ASF) and transferred management of the Prize to the ASF. ASF will perpetuate the Stratton Prize and through the Stratton Prize Committee.
