In 2003, the Young Leaders Conference, sponsored by the Schindler Group and Swiss International Air Lines, was hosted for the first time in Lucerne, at the Palace Luzern hotel. The conference would be hosted again in Lucerne 15 years later for the class of 2018.

The class of 2003 included Dr. Christian Mumenthaler, Group CEO of SwissRe; Anisa Kamadoli Costa, member of the board of directors of the American Swiss Foundation, chief sustainability officer at Tiffany & Co., and chairman and president of the Tiffany & Co. Foundation; Dr. René P. Buholzer, member of the board of the Young Leaders Alumni Foundation and CEO of Interpharma; Michael Stucky, member of the board of the Young Leaders Alumni Foundation and business coach at ETH Zurich; Bruno Giussani, global curator for TED; André Rüegg, CEO of Bellevue Group; Dr. Felix Reiff, CEO of Bayer Consumer Care; and The Honorable Chris Redfern, former state representative in Ohio for District 89 and former chair of the Ohio Democratic Party.
The class also included Chris Mooney, a reporter with The Washington Post covering climate change, energy, and the environment; Pennsylvania political veteran Michael J. Conallen, Jr.; Dr. Rose Razaghian, dean of academic planning and governance for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University; Hans Riemer, Montgomery County councilmember; Karina Rollins, senior research editor at The Heritage Foundation; Kenneth Adams, dean for workforce and economic development at Bronx Community College; Dr. Silvio Bonaccio, head of the technology transfer group ETH Transfer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and co-founder and member of swiTT (Swiss Technology Transfer Association); Dr. Christoph Eisenring, economics editor for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Patric Franzen, Swiss Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Kornicker, Head of Legal and Corporate Functions at Novartis, and Ron Nehring, director of international programs at the Leadership Institute.
