Major Jimmy  Stewart (at right)

Both Stewart and Andrews were flying B-17s when their paths crossed at Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho, in February, 1943.

But the movie star switched to B-24s when he became commander of the 703rd Squadron of the 445th Bomb Group in Sioux City, Iowa, which ultimately joined the 8th Air Force and was based at Tibenham, England.

Stewart flew on 20 combat missions and after the war became a Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserves.
