Senator Tim Rave (Young Leader 2007)
Republican Majority Leader, South Dakota State Senate
What do you like most about Switzerland?
I enjoyed the warm and welcoming culture. I truly look forward to visting again so my whole family can experience this wonderful and unique country.
What do you like most about the USA?
I like to believe it is still a place where if you work hard, opportunity to succeed will find you.
What defines your leadership style?
Open, and I look to find people who will be on my team that help fill in the gaps where I am weak.
Who inspires you?
Abraham Lincoln. He was a true example of a humble public servant.
What is your greatest achievement?
Being a good father and husband first, then serving both as the Senate Majority Leader and Speaker of the House. Both of those titles require those who work closest with you to put their faith in you to lead and represent them. Truly humbling.
Do you have any weaknesses?
Many, but I think knowing you have them gives you an opportunity to fix them - or better yet, to avoid making mistakes in the first place.
Where do you live?
Near a small community in Southeastern South Dakota.
What is your favorite place in the world?
The Big Horn Mountains in Northern Wyoming in the United States. It is where we (my son, my father, and good friends) go snowmobiling. It is a great opportunity for refreshing and bonding with family and friends.
What is the best book you ever read?
The Eloquent President - It is a book with every speech Abraham Lincoln ever wrote.
What is your goal in life?
To leave a legacy that showed I worked hard, and that hard work creates opportunities for us to be successful.
