Béatrice Fischer (Young Leader 2002)
Head of Marketing and Stakeholder Management for Private Banking and Wealth Management, Credit Suisse AG
What do you like most about Switzerland?
Although it is a small country, it is also very international and cosmopolitan. This and the incredible scenery and nature are what I like best. And of course, it is where I was born and raised - Home is always special!
What do you like most about the USA?
I like that Americans tend to be quite relaxed and easy going. I adore the vastness of the country and the beauty and diversity of the nature. And I simply love New York!
What defines your leadership style?
I try to be approachable, down to earth, and fair in my decisions. I put a lot of emphasis on giving my people the necessary freedom to work. As long as my staff doesn't violate my trust, I stand behind them and their actions 100%. When I evaluate or hire people, social skills and the question of whether somebody fits into our corporate/team culture outweigh pure professional capabilities.
Who inspires you?
My parents, who gave me a strong base and a set of sound values. And my friends - I have some really great ones!
What is your greatest achievement?
I have achieved professionally much more than I ever aspired to at the beginning of my career, but more importantly, I just try to be a good person, as this is ultimately what counts.
Do you have any weaknesses?
Of course! Lots. I am definitely impatient with slow thinkers. I don't really like to speak in front of big crowds, but of course, I have to do it. Sometimes I also have a hard time saying "no" to people when they ask for my time, leading to a hopelessly overloaded agenda.
Where do you live?
I live in a nice apartment with a wonderful terrace overlooking the Lake of Zürich. A true privilege.
What is your favorite place in the world?
There are so many wonderful places, but as long as I have not seen them all, I cannot really name a favorite.
What is the best book you ever read?
Again, a hard question to answer. If you had asked my favorite TV show, I would have said with no hesitation: "The West Wing". In terms of books, hopefully the novel I am planning to write once I retire. One of my favorites recently has been the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson.
What is your goal in life?
The mother of all questions. I think at the end of the day I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and be content with my decisions and with how I led my life and affected the lives of others.
